British Values & SMSC

British Values & SMSC

As part of our commmitment to SMSC, we actively promote the Fundemental British Values as described by the Department for Education as:
  • Democracy
  • The Rule of Law
  • Individual Liberty
  • Mutual Respect For and Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.

Our students explore the British values through a broad curriculum. In their Study Skills lessons students explore how British values have developed and changed through time and how today they can be active citizens in their community, country, commonwealth and the world.

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC)

At PGS we believe in developing the young person not only through our academic teaching but by exploring their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Many of our subjects are naturaly related to SMSC and support in depth learning opportunities.

We also promote SMSC throughout the school day providing opportunties in form time, breaks times, assemblies and reward time to explore SMSC with peers and staff.

We promote SMSC through the curriculum and through non curriculum activities such as;
  • RE
  • Sport Competitions and Events
  • History
  • Weekly Themed Events
  • Recognition Days
  • Citizenship
  • Healthy Schools
  • Study Skills Lessons
  • Form Time
  • Educational Visits
  • Student Voice
  • Behaviour Policy
